Statement of faith

What we believe about God, the gospel, and life in Christ.

The Trinity

We worship one eternal God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The three persons are distinct, yet one in divine being, equal in power and glory. God is infinite in wisdom, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.

Jesus Christ

Jesus is the eternal Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully human, united in one person forever. As our prophet, priest, and king, he reveals God’s will, reconciles us to God, and rules and protects his people.

Jesus obeyed the Father perfectly and gave his life on the cross for our sins, satisfying God’s justice. He rose bodily on the third day, ascended into heaven, and intercedes for us. He will return to judge the living and the dead.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit brings us to recognize our sin and enables us to trust in Jesus. He lives in every believer from conversion, gives gifts to serve the church, and works in us so that our lives increasingly reflect Christ.

The Bible

The Old and New Testaments are God’s inspired Word. The Holy Spirit guided the writers so that the whole of Scripture, in all its parts, comes from God. In its original writings, Scripture is infallible. It is our authority for faith and life.

Humanity and sin

God made humanity in his image, to know him and live in righteousness and holiness. Through Adam’s disobedience, the human family fell into sin. Sin affects our whole nature, separates us from God, and leaves us under his judgment, subject to suffering, death, and hell.

God has not abandoned us. In his grace, he provides salvation through Jesus Christ for those who trust in him.

Salvation by grace

God forgives our sins and accepts us as righteous through faith in Jesus Christ alone. We cannot earn this standing through good works; it is God’s gift of grace.

The Spirit gradually renews our desires and conduct, teaching us to turn from sin and live for God. This work will be complete when we are with God forever.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

In this historic creed, “catholic” means the universal church, and “the quick” means the living.
